He arrived with one suitcase and a name that was not quite his own. Not a false name — he hadn't invented it — but a name that belonged to an earlier version of himself, one that still lived in a warmer city and still believed certain things were permanent. He kept the name the way you keep a coat that no longer fits, out of habit, and because throwing it away would mean admitting something.
The reasons he had left were ordinary. That was the worst of it. He had fled nothing dramatic. No war. No scandal. No creditors at the door. Over the course of a few unremarkable years he had simply become a person who no longer recognised his own life. The marriage had not ended so much as evaporated. The work continued but the purpose behind it quietly packed its bags.
So he went north. Not for any reason he could have explained, but because north felt like the direction one travels when trying to stop being found — not by others, but by oneself.

We believe great food and culture should feel inviting, not intimidating — whether you're here for a quick bowl or a long, unhurried evening. Every visit is easy-going, full of flavour, and yours to make of what you will..

Start with a few little things for the table — olives, burrata, whatever the kitchen has decided should begin the evening. Then comes the pasta, the real reason everyone is here.
Bowls of handmade noodles, quietly admired for a moment before the table goes silent. Add a pizzetta if the mood calls for it.
Some guests stop for a quick bowl and a glass of wine. Others assemble a slow parade of plates until the table looks pleasantly overcrowded.
Both are perfectly acceptable ways to do it..

Book a table
We always keep a few tables aside for the spontaneous types. Feel free to wander in, or give us a quick call and we'll happily tell you how the evening is looking.
Tables are set aside for about two hours — enough time for pasta, wine, and something sweet. Groups of more than eight, drop us a note at hello@thirdplace.fi.
The kitchen runs until 21:00 Wed–Thu, and 23:00 Fri–Sat. The bar and music carry on a while after.
